Join in the Fun!
What first?
First of all you need to acquire a Record Book and Entrance Pack which will be available through your D of E unit. By paying a small initial entrance fee to the Award programme, you will receive:
* Your Record Book and Entrance Pack * Limited personal accident insurance cover during your involvement with the Scheme. * Free literature to support your participation in the Scheme. * The badges and certificates you gain upon completion of an Award.
Upon joining the Award, you will receive a starter pack, which will see you through Bronze, Silver and Gold.
For each level, a separate Record Book is required. No activities undertaken before obtaining a Record Book may count towards an Award, unless undertaken during the previous three months. This is in accordance with the conditions of the appropriate Section and with a view to entry into the Scheme.
The Assessors will certify completion of each Section of the Award in the Record Book. When all the requirements for an Award have been met, the relevant certificate will be signed on behalf of the Operating Authority and an Award will be authorised.
Working Towards an Award:
Although most people start by working on their Bronze Award and then to Silver and Gold, it is not necessary to do so. Providing you meet the minimum age requirements, you can start where you like. You may start working for Bronze at 14, for Silver at 15 and for Gold at 16. Any Award program must be completed by your 25th birthday to qualify.
A detailed breakdown of each of the sections and their requirements, as well as opportunities available can be accessed through each section page. Just click on the appropriate section at the top of the page.
We have compiled a list of useful reading that can help with your Award. You may find it useful to consult the Award Handbook when choosing what you want to do for the various Sections of the Award and what the requirements would be for those specific choices. The Handbook also contains a full listing of qualifying activities for the Service and Physical Recreation Sections. A copy will be available for you to read from your unit leader, library or from us at the Open Award Centres.
